It’s difficult to change yourself…
… especially if you’re going it alone.
If you’ve tried like hell to figure out, change, or tough out some aspect of your life only to end up in the same futile place…
You may be surprised to discover what happens when you reach out for help from the right person – someone whose job is all about helping you make that change.
My coaching is “authenticity coaching.”
There are all kinds of coaches out there: health coaches, financial coaches, emotion coaches, and relationship coaches, just to name a few.
So, I want to tell you about the specific kind of coaching I offer: authenticity coaching.
Authenticity coaching aims to help you get in touch with your authentic, whole, creative self.
Here are some examples of what we might address…
Do any of the following sentiments and desires sound familiar?
“I’d like to stop people-pleasing.”
“I’d like to stop procrastinating.”
“I know I have a lot of potential, but I get in my way of tapping into it.”
“I’d like to stop being afraid of conflict.”
“I’d like to be less self-conscious.”
“I’d like my inner critic to shut up.”
“I’d like to have less social anxiety.”
“I’d like to stop feeling like an outsider in this life.”
“I’d just like to relax into the moment instead of feeling like I have to be productive all the time.”
We’ll get there, but first, some notes on coaching in general…
Coaching is a mission-driven relationship – that is, our work will center on improving your life.
Maybe you know who you want to be, but something nameless is stopping you.
Or you might be dealing with some kind of suffering – like a harsh inner critic or social anxiety – and you’d just like to see who you’d be without these obstacles.
Whatever the case, we’ll give names to the things you’d like to change, agree on an action plan, and set out to make those changes.
We’ll meet weekly or every other week until the work is done or new goals are formed. I’ll be your partner, ally, and accountability partner along the way.
Something special about the coaching relationship…
In addition to my experience as a licensed therapist, we can draw from a sea of sources and practices to get you where you need to go. These may include:
Supportive and therapeutic listening sessions,
Mindfulness practices,
Tools from your own practices or spirituality,
Ideas from various forms of psychotherapy,
Books, podcasts, movies, or documentaries,
Inner-child work,
Breath and grounding techniques,
Writing and creative projects,
Or creative visualization.
What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?
Here are the similarities:
- Your mental well-being is the focus.
- I’ll be a curious, warm, and absolutely nonjudgmental partner in our work.
- Big, uncomfortable emotions can be part of the process.
- Your life will change for the better!
But there are differences:
- Therapy is a treatment for diagnosable mental health conditions. If you’re a Washingtonian or Oregonian, we can work together in the context of diagnoses and treatment. If you’re outside of these states and would like treatment for a mental health condition, you will need to look for a licensed therapist in your state.
- Because licensure boards do not regulate coaching, you can meet me for coaching even if you don’t live in Oregon or Washington.
- Coaching is for aspects of your experience that may be painful or cause suffering but do not meet the criteria for a mental health diagnosis.
- You can use out-of-network insurance benefits for therapy but not coaching.
You’re going to make progress toward your goals.
Then, that progress is going to transform into more progress. Here’s what I mean…
Imagine a man who hates himself. He comes into coaching with the goal of loving himself (or, at the very least, liking himself!). We accomplish this goal. That’s progress. But imagine the progress that comes in his life as a result. Imagine the lives touched and improved by this progress. What isn’t transformed when we shift into self-love?
Another example: Imagine an artist who comes to coaching because he’s in a creative dry spell. Through coaching, he identifies the obstacles and works through them. That’s progress. But imagine the progress after our work is done, as he goes about his life doing the work he was intended to do. Imagine the positive impact on the world around him!
In both examples, the men are transformed… but not necessarily into something brand new. Rather, they’ve transformed into someone much more authentic – someone much more themselves.
